This class is designed to mirror the weekly music class experience that most public school students encounter. Each class will be centered on a specific musical concept with several activities aimed at helping the students gain mastery of the concept. Music can be experienced in a multitude of ways and classes will strive to incorporate singing, playing, reading, writing, creating, and moving to music as often as possible and in a fun way! This course would provide instruction in the basics of music theory and music history as well as music reading and playing. Classes will meet each Friday during the school year and last for 40-45 minutes each lesson. The target time for the class is 9:30 AM.
Tuition for each school year will $250. Tuition includes the cost of music supplies and materials as well as rental fees for the space. Tuition can be paid in 10 monthly payments of $25. Music classes will meet at Byron Baptist Church in Byron, GA. Classes begin on August 14 and will generally follow the Houston County school calendar.
Students in the 4th and 5th grade who demonstrate strong singing abilities and an aptitude for learning music would be eligible for Elementary Statewide Honor Chorus. I look forward to the opportunity to take more students this year!

Special opportunities for students in this course include 6th Grade Statewide Honor Chorus and All-State Chorus. I was very excited to have a student pass the auditions and earn a spot in All-State Chorus this past school year and had others who were very close to passing as well. I am equally excited about the prospect of having more students earn this great honor!

I am the parent of three home schooled children. While my wife and I have found many resources to help us teach academic subjects, there are very few opportunities for our home schooled students to learn music in our area. Even though I am a certified music educator and have 11 years of teaching experience in the public school system, I seldom have had the time and opportunity to formally teach music to my own children. The classes that I offer are meant to address a need, not just for my children, but for the home school community in the middle Georgia area. My goal is to provide students in our home school community the same access to music education, music performance, and music competition as those in a public school setting.
My life has consistently and persistently been shaped by music. From an early age, I was involved in Children's Church choir and piano lessons. My love for music blossomed in my high school years as I participated in my first organized choir. This led me to attend the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in Music Education and to later earn both a Master's and a Specialist's degree as well.
I have 11 years of public school teaching experience which has led me from Jackson County to Cobb County and, finally, to Houston County. While in those positions, I sought to cultivate the same love for music and music-making that I have. I have had the pleasure of taking many students to special events like All-State Chorus and Honor Choruses. It is a delight to see young musicians thrive and grow! It would be a great joy to have to opportunity to help you and your student grow as well!
Practice tracks will be available soon!!
